Scan-to-Pay with a Digital Wallet and Regular Tickets
In some cities, riders can pay their fare on the bus with scan-to-pay, or with fares available for purchase in the app.
Are you a regular rider? Simply tap your phone every time you ride and take advantage of fare capping once you’ve spent the equivalent of a daily or monthly pass. For occasional riders, individual fares are the way to go - purchase tickets with just a few simple steps.
Note: Fare capping is not available for RTC Las Vegas.
With Transit, you can add value, purchase fares, scan your pass, and check out your transaction history to keep track of your travels.

Add Value to your Account
In your city, there are two ways of paying your way with Transit: you can add value to your account to take advantage of fare-capping (best for regular riders), or purchase a ticket in the app using your account balance or credit card (best for occasional riders).
If you add value to your account, you can use it to make fare purchases, and use it for scan-to-pay (fare capping).
Note: There are different ways to add value to your account. You can use your payment card, or load with cash at a ticket machine. The steps will differ slightly depending on the method, but you can always switch and use both methods.
- On your home screen, tap Buy:
- Tap Pay with QR code:
- Tap Pay with your mobile phone to add money to your account:
- Follow the steps to sign in to your Transit account or to create a new account. If it's your first time purchasing fares in that city, you'll be asked to choose your fare type.
Pro tip: you will always be able to update your fare type in the settings later.
Add Value Using a Credit Card

Pro tip: If you’d like to use Apple Pay or Google Pay to pay for your ride, just tap on your payment method before completing your purchase to use it. You can learn more in this article.
You are now ready to hop on board! 🎉 Your receipt will be sent by email for your records.
